Pinholes & Photograms

Pinholes&Photograms2a

A bit about “Pinhole Photography” A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture in this instance f198. I converted a body cap which holds the actual pinhole component for use on my DSLR.

A friend in a programme called Play to Win, allied to Screw Work Let’s Play suggested a month of photography, and these are the results so far.

Day Fifteen

A rainy day and not that inspired. One drawback of pinhole is the small aperture makes it very difficult to frame and compose an image. Most of the time it’s a case of point & hope. However rather than shoot at very slow shutter speeds I bumped up the ISO to 1600 which enabled me to shoot at speeds of a 30th & a 15th. More digital noise in the image but it seems to add to the effect.

Day Ten

Very prolific today, playing around with hand held exposures of between 1 – 5 seconds.

Day Eight

Today I was without a tripod so I had to find subjects I could photograph using the camera hand held, with exposures of perhaps two, three or 5 seconds. Normally hand holding for that length of time is not recommended because camera shake causes the image to blur. However, it can add to the impressionistic effect pinhole photography produces.
